ROBOTICS IN SURGERY

ABSTRACT 

Robotic technology has emerged as a game-changer in the field of surgery, revolutionizing the way surgical procedures are conducted. Robotic assisted surgery has becoming synonymous with precision and accuracy. Surgeons can now perform intricate procedures with enhanced dexterity and 3D visualization, reducing the risk of human error. The outcomes are remarkable, with patients experiencing less pain, shorter hospital stays and quicker recoveries.

INTRODUCTION 

In the ever-evolving landscape of modern medicine, technological advancements have continually reshaped the way healthcare is delivered. Among these groundbreaking innovations, the integration of robotics into the field of surgery has emerged as a transformative force, redefining the boundaries of what is possible in the operating room. Robotics in surgery, often referred to as robotic-assisted surgery or minimally invasive surgery, represents a dynamic convergence of technology, medical expertise and patient-centric care. As the term “robotics” suggests, these surgical systems involve the use of highly advanced robots and computer technology to assist and in some cases, replace the surgeon’s hands, making even the most intricate and delicate procedures more manageable. Traditional surgical technique, while highly effective, can sometimes be limited by human factors, such as hand tremors and fatigue. Robotics offers a solution to these limitations. By utilizing robotic arms and instruments, surgeons can overcome these limitations. This precision has a direct and positive impact on patient outcomes. It means shorter recovery times, reduced post-operative pain, and fewer complications, ultimately leading to improved quality of life for patients. 

Da Vinci Surgical System:

 The system consists of robotic arms equipped with surgical instruments and cameras. These arms are controlled by the surgeon, who operates from a console in the operating room.

 High-definition 3D cameras provide surgeons with an immersive and detailed view of the surgical site, enabling them to perform precise and delicate movements.

 The robotic arms are designed with highly flexible, wristed instruments that mimic the natural movements of the human hand with a wider range of motion and improved dexterity.

 The Da Vinci Surgical system is used in a variety of surgical specialties including urology, Gynecology, General surgery, Cardiac surgery.
